Sphinner ReputationsReputation Management. If I were to count the number of times I saw those two words appear on the What's New list, it might move at about the same pace as the Sphinn Icon at right. Hey, have you Socialites ever thought about the Reputation of your Community? How about the Reputation of your Network? Is Reputation Management just a topic for discussion?
What you are about to read is a summary of my findings in regards to what I feel is a very important part of the process that many of you have overlooked, your Community Reputation and then the Reputation of your Network overall. Many of you know that I am quite verbose in my writings, this time I've included pictures, graphs, screenshots, text files, etc. Please feel free to comment via our secure contact form. Oh, don't forget to review Item #10, The Smoking Gunn.
What's New PussyCat?Ah, the Sphinn What's New area, my all time favorite topic of discussion these days. I wanted to get that term PussyCat in there as what I'm about to show you may contain one or both parts of that combined word riding on the coat tails of the Sphinn domain, if not directly in your pockets.
It appears as if someone has been on the job today (2008-07-18) keeping that What's New page clean. I can't say that I've seen it this clean in the last 14 days. Congratulations to whomever is keeping a watchful eye on things. Let's see how you do come 0100-0400 in the morning.
There were a few comments from Rob Kerry, Sphinn Editor, that didn't seem to sit right with me when I was participating in a discussion at Sphinn during the weekend of 2008-07-12. This was a topic along with discussion that didn't see the light of day and pretty much got nuked within 24 hours. I did screenshot everything and have detailed notes on where I was going with that. But, after seeing this first comment, I began to wonder. Is it possible they are not aware of the damage being performed on the What's New list day in and day out? No, that can't be. These guys know more about this stuff than I do. Knowing that, why would someone make this statement publicly knowing damn well that there are a few challenges with the What's New list in its current configuration?
Rob Kerry, Sphinn Editor - What's New does not damage anyone or anything. Content and links are removed when a story is removed. Spam does clutter up the What's New page, although it does not harm anyone and is often removed within the hour.

Within the Hour2008-07-18 at 20:50 PDT - Within the hour eh?
Okay, I've had me What's New list open now and have been taking screenshots as I create this topic live.
I'm watching one topic that has been there now for exactly one hour. Quick, you have about 36 seconds left before I nail you on the "within the hour statement". Tick, tick, tick...
[Loud Buzzer Sound]
Too late, I got it at one hour and two minutes with supporting screenshots...

I just want to make sure that I didn't misunderstand the Sphinn Networking Concept. I see that the above "user", veryjoe, posted their topic in the appropriate Category: Networking. I was informed that the Sphinn Community Social Concepts were much different than those at let's say a WebmasterWorld or other "Old School" fora. You know, like pre 2K, SEF days? JimWorld?
Does the above qualify to sit on the What's New list and "squeeze juice" from the foundation of the Sphinn platform? Each minute that goes by, Googlebot is probably picking up a different access point (URI) for that new topic at any one of at least six (06) locations. Add to that the multitude of technical flaws in the Pligg platform and all sorts of unusual stuff begins to take place. I know, I've been watching it almost by the minute for seven (07) days straight. Well, I did a get a few hours sleep...
What's New PhlawI posted this particular topic on 2008 July 12, Saturday which I believe is the "dead zone" for Sphinners.
This topic never saw the light of day and quickly got nuked. Between the Sphamm and the SphinnBots this one sunk quickly, got lost, and then POOF! it was gone.
There was a bit of discussion that took place and I'm glad I know how to use my Print Screen Key!

What's New and Pre-ModI watched the What's New list like a hawk for seven (07) days straight and I started on a Friday afternoon (2008-07-11) when the abusive activity begins to heat up. I can tell you from watching almost 20 hours that first weekend that content is not often removed within the hour. But, that really wouldn't matter anyway. The content should never see the light of day, period! Why you ask? Well, let's take a look at some Google indexed results and study them closely and then ask all the Sphinners what this might mean.
I will admit, some of my findings baffle me because I don't fully understand the trail. I am going to step out on the limb and say that there are cloaked redirects sitting somewhere in a Sphinn Community alleyway. They are very active and in hiding. In fact, as of this writing, there were 1,500+ results from one particular domain that you don't want your content associated with. Or maybe you do? Content Cross Contamination
Because of what I feel are major flaws in the Pligg platform architecture, your quality content is being associated with low quality and downright NASTY content, and I do mean NASTY! And, since this leads over to the Phornn space, those guys/gals do things that I'll never be able to backtrack. They're like ghosts. They appear and then disappear. They reappear and then disappear again.
2008-07-18 at 23:20 PDT - Oh, check this out! Can you figure out what "may" be going on when looking at a picture of it all? Can someone explain these Google TouchGraph Browser results to me? Why are there "legs" all over the place for that submit.php function? I look at these TouchGraph results, then I go back and look at some of the Sphamm that sat on the What's New list and got indexed and "I'll be!" There is a correlation between the two, can you believe that? I need some help understanding what I'm seeing here? Keep in mind that this is just a "small sampling" of the graph.

Hehehe, check this one out down here at the bottom right, the Reclamation: one. The top Sphinners need to reclaim their community. ![]()
From the TouchGraph Google Browser Help Page...
"The TouchGraph Google Browser allows exploring the network of similar pages on Google. Similar pages do not directly represent inbound or outbound hyperlinks. Mutual links contribute to two pages being identified as similar, but other factors are also incorporated. For instance, frequent third party mentions of the two web pages together will cause them to be listed as similar."
I want to take the above explanation for the TouchGraph Google Browser Similar Pages and split them up into three (03) parts so that I may opine on each;
I sure wish they did as it would have made all this research that much easier! As always, with Google, there are typically LARGE white spaces between the lines. In fact, they double-space everything. That's why I'm separating these out into three (03) distinct list items. In this case, similar pages do not directly represent IBLs or OBLs. Okay, let's move on to number two (02)...
Mutual Links? Okay, so the Google TouchGraph Browser is telling us that "mutual links" contribute to two pages being identified as similar. Yikes! If that is the case and I am understanding the results of my research, the Sphinners may have some Reputation Challenges at hand. I'll have more on that "way" down the page. Don't worry, I will have Fragment Identifiers everywhere so that you cannot get lost.
Oh, this one is really juicy. That is "triple-spaced", not "double-spaced" when reading between the lines. Frequent third party mentions? Hmmm, you mean to tell me that "other" networks (see the graph) outside of the Sphinn Community Network can make mention of two web pages together, as in sharing, and become similar and/or related?
Can you say Pandora's Box? Or Pandora's Jar? ![]()
To search for web pages that have similar content to a given site, type "related:" followed by the website address into the Google search box below.
The Dark Alleys of the Sphinn Network2008-07-19 at 01:10 PDT - YES! I am still here assembling data. The amount of information to review and assimilate is a bit overwhelming for me. This is the one you've been waiting for.
I'm assembling the .pdf docs now so this one doesn't get indexed. I surely don't want to perpetuate the "association" that "I personally feel" is happening to the Sphinn Network and then the "nodes" within the network. You know, the Sphinnfluencers, those who drive the community?
Its pretty simple and goes like this... You post a topic, it gets surrounded by this low quality and/or less than suitable adult stuff, Google indexes it rapidly (within minutes), and because of Pligg technical challenges (my personal opinion), content gets cross contaminated. I know, I've seen the Google search results from the sphinn.com domain with topics being blended together in Snippets. That can't be good and that is what I would call Content Cross Contamination.

Now, take the above and add in what you are about to see in the attached pdf file and what do you think the end result "might be"? Remember, I am only theorizing here and have me "Tin Hat" on at all times when discussing this stuff. There is so much white space between the lines that without me "Tin Hat", I'd be in trouble. ![]()
I had mentioned above that I would discuss the Indianns at the public level. I've changed my mind, there is just too much information and you know how verbose I can be. I have a passion for this. I want to help the Sphinn Community and the industry in general. There are no hats, colors, hat colors, and/or border lines. And last but not least, NO FREAKIN' POLITICS please! I could care less about the He Said/She Said, save it for your Blogs. Not you, the other one who doesn't understand any of this.
Phornn Stars, Gamers, SphinnBots, Americanns, Germanns, Indianns, RussiannsYou name it, you've got it all. Some of it on a large scale such as the Phornn, some of it at a slow daily pace that is having a major impact on the Network as a whole. As a Sphinner, or I should say a terminated Sphinner, I would want to make sure that this type of abuse is recognized and dealt with immediately. Your contributions to the Sphinn Network are being "sucked dry" by the HOOVERs and an underlying layer of Phornn, Gamers, SphinnBots, Americann Networks, Germann Networks, Indiann Networks, Russiann Networks, you name it. Anyone who knows the flaws of the Community are now taking advantage of them right under your feet.
The stuff people are finding on Sphinn through basic Google searches is child's play compared to what is happening at what "I personally feel" is a level of cloaked redirects that won't be detected through normal methods. In fact, I'm not sure exactly what you'll be seeing in the following .pdf file other than I know it is not good, it can't be. I am not about to travel into your NASTY alleyways and do cleanup for you. Your Landlord needs to make sure that the Community is safe and impervious to the abuse that is now taking place at this very minute while you read this Sphinn Story, it is happening right now. I'm done with the data collection, no more!
At the same time they are abusing the Sphinn Community, they've taken your Network and have disassociated it from the Core Network. I know, that gets a bit deep but if Bill Slawski is reading this, he will understand and probably do his own rendition of what I'm describing and I'll understand it more after reading his explanation. That dude Bill Slawski from SEO by the SEA rocks with this stuff. Hopefully I've provided him with enough information here (ya' tha'nk) to get started. ![]()
The Smoking Gunn?I really don't know. You tell me...
Before you open the below .pdf, I'll need you to understand what you are seeing. In my "underground" research mode, I do believe I uncovered some unusual things happening "under" the Sphinn Community and in the Dark Alleyways of the Network, the Pligg platform.
I need to make sure that you are of legal adult age, preferably 30+ as I'm sure some of this may be a bit much for those with less than reptile skin features. Ladies, you may want to avoid this and have your significant other just tell you that it was not good.
"I, a fellow Sphinner and/or fellow terminated Sphinner, have read the above information. I may, or may not, fully understand it but, I'm willing to take a peek inside to see what is there.
I do hereby confirm, on this day and date, that I am of adult legal age in the country where I reside and, that opening/downloading the attached password protected .pdf document constitutes my acceptance of its unedited contents in full. Yada, yada, yada..."
Admin Note: You will need to enter the first password as shown below. Press Cancel on the second password prompt. This 190k .pdf document is supposedly protected but I'm sure my audience knows better. Please do not link directly to this file, right click and save to your local system and then you are welcome to do with it as you wish. Good riddance!
2008-07-20 at 12:30 PDT - Ah, many are now pinging me asking exactly what is in the above password protected .pdf document... One moment...
I stepped into the abyss quite a while ago, what many refer to as "the dark side". My venture into that space is being used as a tool for prevention, not promotion. Although I've seen some pretty slick stuff that will drive content to the top of the SERPs, really, I have.
I found all of this by using the information I've gleaned from those whom I call my Peers, my Friends, those with whom I've followed over the many years in this industry. Believe it or not, the creator of Sphinn, Danny Sullivan, has been a long time respected figure for me. I was reading Danny way back in the mid 90s when this stuff was so basic that all you had to do was put a page online with a title, description, keywords, heading, a bulleted list of links, a few paragraphs with inline keyword rich links, some blueline.jpg separators and BOOM!, you were good to go. Put a few thousand of those into the index and you could sit back and watch them appear overnight. "We're you searching the Internet for..." ![]()
Here's a quick bit of SEO Trivia. The image below is "the original" and "famous" blueline.jpg file. I saved this from my WPG days. And no, it was not blueline.gif as so many claim. The second version was indeed a gif named bluelinenew.gif. Do you know why?"

Sphinn IS being SabotagedThe above password protected PDF document contains a "small sampling" of content that "is" getting indexed "under" and "across" the Sphinn.com domain. The abuse is far greater than the "small sampling" shown in The Smoking Gunn document. If you don't believe me at this point, please do ping me and I'll be more than happy to explain in great detail. The Sphinn Community is being "Sabotaged" by various entities from a multitude of angles.
These are just some of the "visible Nodes" that are poisoning Sphinn.
Here's a picture of it all one more time...
See the "Pink" area at the top right here? How about that "Purple" area down there. Oh, what about this "Beige" colored Government Network at the top left? While you are pondering those questions, let me ask a few more. Is there a Singles area on Sphinn where I can Meet Womenn? How about a Gamess area for Kids? What about a Top Musicc category, where are all these damn "Similar" categories at? And, where is the .gov/.edu section of Sphinn? Mind you, these are just "Similar Pages" and can be easily Sphunn another way. I'll Sphinn them my way based on all the supporting documentation and this time, without my topic getting nuked!
Come on Sphinners, WAKE TF UP!

The sphinn/submit.php function is being utilized to sabotage the Sphinn platform "from my perspective". I've been using the Google TouchGraph Browser since it first launched back on 2002-07-04. I use it as a tool for my marketing research activities. It is the ultimate weapon to detect all sorts of interesting information.
If you look at the above TouchGraph results for the sphinn.com/submit.php function, what do you see? Take a look at the thick gray lines. Those are "connections" leading outside of the Network. And then those thinner gray lines are connections from "nodes" within those outside "networks" feeding out to "other nodes" that are not within the Sphinn Network. Did that make sense?
Here, let's do it from a Social Media Optimization perspective...
Topic Goes Hot after 22 Sphinns and obtains "Reputation" while feeding the Sphinn platform.Yes, I "personally feel" that your quality content becomes associated with Sphinn Sphamm as soon as you Submit it to the What's New list, Content Cross Contamination. Whatever you do, DO NOT SUBMIT quality content after hours or on the weekends. Wait until there are plenty of Sphinners around (or you've pinged them in advance) to Sphinn that topic to the Hot Topics list and prevent it from sitting in that What's New section for too long, that is a bad neighborhood.
That appears to be the process of Social Media Optimization, am I correct?
Okay, while all of you are doing all of this SMO stuff, others, some with less than desirable Community and Network Reputations, have figured out a way to "hack your platform" and use it for SEO stuff, yes they have, right under your very noses. And unfortunately all of you are going to start feeding the sharks and the "black hole" again first thing tomorrow morning 2008-07-21 at around 0400 forward. How do I get in touch with the President? ![]()
